Stating that around 10 lakh people would be pushed to the brink of poverty if the e-rickshaws are put off-roads, the Congress has demanded the Central Government to promulgate an ordinance and notify it to prevent e-rickshaw drivers from being rendered jobless.

The Delhi Congress leaders have also decided to meet Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung to raise the issue on Friday.

“Keeping in mind the Delhi High Court ruling, the BJP-led Central Government while taking into consideration the safety and security of the people of Delhi should immediately issue an ordinance to ensure that e-rickshaws were not taken off the roads. Mr. Nitin Gadkari had got himself a big applause at the Ramlila Miadan when he promised that the e-rickshaw drivers would not be rendered jobless and the BJP had even put up posters all over Delhi taking credit for it. Now they must live up to their promise,” said Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh.
