‘PM talks about climate change in Paris’

The Congress on Thursday squarely blamed the Centre and the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi for smog in the Capital.

Incentives for farmers

“[Prime Minister Narendra] Modi ji can talk about climate change in Paris but keeps quiet about the poisonous smog in Delhi. We would like to know if he has offered incentives farmers in neighbouring States like Haryana and Punjab,” said Randeep Surjewala, who heads the communication wing of the Congress.

In response to a question on Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh refusing to meet Mr. Kejriwal, Mr. Surjewala said meetings can be mere photo-ops.

Initiative

“There is no harm in him [Mr. Kejriwal] meeting Captain [Singh] but these meetings can just be photo-ops. What we need is concrete action now. The Centre needs to take the initiative to bring all States together and prepare a plan.”

He said immediate steps to curb vehicular pollution, construction in neighbouring areas and incentive packages to farmers to stop stubble burning were needed.
