Delhi Congress’ week-long protests at 42 markets in Delhi against price rise due to implementation of GST concluded on Sunday with demonstrations in three main markets.
The demonstrations were held on Sunday near Kali Mata Mandir Road, opposite Sagarpur Police Station in Najafgarh District, Main Bazar, Mehrauli in Mehrauli District, Janakpuri C-Block Market and Tilak Nagar district in which thousands of traders, common people and Congress workers participated.
‘Miserable lives’
DPCC president Ajay Maken said: “The lives of the common people have become miserable, as they have been weighed down by the rising prices of essential commodities. Clothes, shoes, fruits and vegetables, and construction of houses have become dearer, and young people have been robbed of employment opportunities.”
Mr. Maken said due to the “wrong implementation” of GST, not only have prices of all items gone up sharply, it also severely hit small industries, traders, consumers and the common people. He pointed out that the GST that the Congress wanted to implement had a 14% outer cap while the one implemented by the Modi government with multiple tax slabs had an outer limit of 43%.
