The confusion over the resignation of Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh on Tuesday afternoon further muddied the troubled waters of the varsity. Admissions – which were to begin on Tuesday – were deferred by a week after the festering controversy over Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) snowballed into a full-blown crisis with the UGC on Sunday directing the University to revert to the three year programme that was in place before the 2013-14 academic year.

The day began with a faculty member of the university seeking the intervention of the courts to stop the “virtual take over” of the university by the UGC amid indications that the Commission had asked all the 64 colleges of the university to send in their respective compliance reports vis-à-vis reverting to the three year programme. The UGC later said that 57 colleges had complied.
