Confusion, complaints galore as long wait for nursery school admissions begins

January 20, 2012 12:08 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 02:24 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The anxious wait for the first list of selected students for nursery to various popular schools continues with the parents saying that some of the schools were not going by the February 1 date to announce the first list of selected candidates.

“Several small schools have started calling in parents for verification and asking them to ‘secure' a seat for their children. This effectively means that we will have to pay money to block the seat. This is unfair because most of us want to wait and see if our name figures in the popular schools and only if we don't figure there will we then opt for the next best school,” said Naresh Negia, a resident of Rohini who is seeking admission for his three-year-old girl.

“There is also some confusion about the draw of lots, verification process and the payments to be made,” added Mr. Negi.

Parents are also complaining that the popular schools continue to side-step the guidelines laid down by the State Education Department. “We don't want to complain for fear that our children will suffer. Despite the order that schools should come out with the list of selected candidates on February 1, DPS International School will declare the first list of candidates selected under the general category much earlier,” said Rajani Rai, another parent who is seeking admission for her child. “Other schools too have announced that they will be coming out with the list of selected students much earlier,” she added.

A senior Delhi Education Department official said, “We are entertaining complaints from parents and will follow it up with the schools. The Department has issued strict guidelines to the schools in the Capital to adhere to the norms laid down or face cancelation of admissions.”

After the nursery admissions most schools will open for KG admissions this year by late February or early March.
