Confiscate disproportionate assets, orders Delhi court

April 25, 2014 01:23 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 01:19 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

A Delhi court has ordered that assets worth Rs.26.57 lakh belonging to a senior manager of Public Sector Undertaking MSTC (Metal Scrap Trade Corporation Ltd.) be confiscated. The court has held him guilty of accumulating disproportionate assets.

Special CBI judge Swarana Kanta Sharma held Samir Kumar Ghosh guilty of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income during the check period from December 1983 to January 24, 2007, during which his family income came out to be Rs.60.50 lakh. The CBI found disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs.26.95 lakh, which, the court said, Ghosh could not satisfactorily account for.

He was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs.2 lakh on January 24, 2007, following which the CBI raided his premises.

The judge also sentenced Ghosh to one year in jail and a fine of Rs.1 lakh. The jail term was, however, suspended till June 23 on his plea.
