Compensate traders: BJP

August 24, 2010 03:17 pm | Updated 03:17 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded that the Delhi Government compensate all importers and exporters whose goods were burnt in the fire at the Inland Container Depot in Tughlakabad here on April 10.

At a multi-media power point presentation here on Monday, senior BJP leader Vijay Jolly said the depot was not safe even now and was littered with piles of waste.

In the fire on April 10, goods worth crores of rupees of importers and exporters were burnt. The Government must give 100 per cent compensation to people whose goods were burnt.”

Claiming that the Government has offered compensation of Rs.50 per kg, Mr. Jolly, who visited the depot to find out the reasons for chaos, mismanagement and risk of fire, said one can find burnt goods and garbage there. “Even the iron gate is burnt. The roof of the container depot has been demolished. Exporters have no option but to keep their goods in rotten area littered with garbage.”
