About 1,200 new Bus Queue Shelters were proposed to be constructed by the Delhi government in 2015-16.

Commuters will soon be able to fetch information about the arrival of vehicles at bus shelters using their smartphones, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said on Thursday.

The Minister said the government had revamped its existing Poocho app and will relaunch it with additional features in the next two weeks.

“The government has revamped Poocho app and will relaunch it within two weeks. Through the app, commuters will be able to get information about the arrival of buses at a particular bus shelter,” Mr. Gahlot said.

After launching a pilot project of detailed map facility at four bus shelters, Mr. Gahlot said there were some problems in the GPS installed DTC buses which often failed to detect the location. The government, he said, was working to sort out the issue.

The Minister further stated that Poocho app, developed by the Delhi Integrated Multi-Model Transit System (DIMTS), will also provide facility of real time location of bus and routes.

After the completion, the pilot project will be unveiled at all bus queue shelters, he said, adding that the move is intended at improving convenience for bus commuters.

An official said the bus route map is a cognitive map on par with transit maps in top cities globally such as London and New York among others.

About 1,200 new Bus Queue Shelters were proposed to be constructed by the Delhi government in 2015-16.

To accommodate new buses being purchased by Delhi Transport Corporation and to be added under cluster scheme in 2018-19, seven bus depots at Dichaon Kalan-II, Bawana Sector-I, Rewla Khanpur, Rani Khera-I, Rani Khera-II, Rani Khera-III, and Dwarka Sector 22 have been completed.

₹80 crore budget

Six new bus depots at Guman Hera, Mundela Kalan, Rohini Sector-37, East Vinod Nagar, Bawana Sector-5 and VIU Burari are also scheduled to be constructed in 2018-19 for which an outlay of ₹80 crore has been planned in this year’s budget.
