All six accused have now been charged with murder

March 09, 2014 10:00 am | Updated May 19, 2016 07:19 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A 22-year-old Law student, who was allegedly beaten up by a group of six boys at the parking lot of his college at Karkardooma in East Delhi, died on Saturday. Two persons have been arrested for the murder.

The victim, Ayush Kaushal, was a fourth year Law student at Ideal Institute of Management and Technology & School of Law. According to the police, the incident was an outcome of an altercation which took place on Wednesday.

Ayush used to shuttle between his home in neighbouring Faridabad and his college in East Delhi. On Wednesday, he had a scuffle with some students after they ordered him not to park his motorcycle at a particular spot, which they claimed was ‘reserved’ for them.

The issue was resolved the following day as he apologised to the other group.

“But two members of the group -- identified as Tanuj Tiwari and Amit Nagar -- were not satisfied with the settlement and had an axe to grind as they believed that a mere apology was not enough. So on Friday noon, they got into another fight with Ayush outside the college,” said a senior police officer.

Along with three other students and an outsider, Tanuj and Amit allegedly thrashed the victim. They boxed and kicked him repeatedly till he collapsed. It is alleged that other students who were present there remained mute spectators and made no efforts to intervene or save the victim. However, no weapon was used during the incident, said the police.

Ayush was first admitted to Dr Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan by his fellow students and his parents were informed.

They got him transferred to Max Hospital and the authorities there informed the police. After being hospitalised overnight, Ayush succumbed to his injuries early on Saturday.

“He was declared dead around 6-30 a.m. During his stay at the hospital, he was put on artificial respiration in the hospital’s intensive care unit, but serious injuries to his chest led to his death,” said a police officer.

Two held, hunt on for other accused

Based on the statement of eyewitnesses, the police have registered a case of attempt to murder initially and arrested Tanuj from Khichripur in Delhi and Amit from Vaishali in Ghaziabad on Friday night. Both are first year students in elementary teacher’s training course at the same institute. A hunt is on for the other accused. All six accused have now been charged with murder.
