Aspirants seeking admission to Delhi University (DU) under the Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) category were seen hopping from one college to another on Wednesday — a day before registration ends under the first cycle — trying to figure out if they should choose a college based on its reputation or the popularity of its ECA societies.

DU expects five cycles of admissions to take place under the ECA.

For the first cycle, registration will end on Thursday, the admission list is scheduled to be released on July 14 and selected candidates can complete the admission process between July 15 and 17.

On Wednesday, many aspirants said they would make their final choice based on the popularity of particular societies in each college.

‘Will look at societies’

“I have been short listed under the Indian Music category. Now I am registering in Miranda House, Khalsa College, Ramjas College and Kirori Mal College. I want to pursue B.A. (Hons.) English and my college of preference will be Miranda House not only because of the college’s reputation but also because I have researched and compared music societies and Miranda’s music society is one of the best,” said Sukhpreet Kaur, an aspirant.

Aishwarya Pandey, who was selected under the Dramatics category, said: “While making the final decision, I will definitely keep in mind factors such as environment and facilities. However, the biggest factor will be how good the drama society is in that particular college.”

However, for others it is the college that will be of prime importance.

‘College more important’

“I got short listed under the Western Instrumental category. I have registered at Lady Shri Ram College (LSR), Hansraj College, Ramjas College and Miranda House. I want to pursue B.A. (Hons) Economics and LSR is my preference as it is one of the best colleges,” said Khushi Jain, another applicant.

“For me, the popularity of the societies matters to an extent but my final decision will be based on how good the college is,” she added.

“Even though I have applied to LSR, my first choice will be Miranda House as it is in North Campus and I want to experience campus life as I have heard about it a lot,” said Ananya Gulati, who has been short listed under the Creative Writing category.

After the completion of the registration process each college will be releasing their own merit list, selecting candidates for each of the ECA category in present in the respective colleges.
