The popular Bhairon temple in Pragati Maidan, Central Delhi, had a surprise visitor on Thursday. It was a large cobra which was spotted by the temple priest. He immediately contacted the Wildlife SOS helpline.
“Since it is currently the holy period of Navaratra, hundreds of devotees throng the temple. Upon hearing about the snake’s presence, there was panic, but before the situation could go out of hand, the Wildlife SOS rescue team had arrived. Once the snake was located in the temple plumbing, the SOS team secured the four-foot snake in a bag without alarming the reptile,” said a release issued by the Wildlife SOS.
Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder, Wildlife SOS, said, “This was a very delicate operation as we had to keep public safety in mind.
After a thorough medical examination the snake was found healthy and was released back in its natural habitat.”
He said that it was the timely call from the temple authorities that helped avert any possible accident and a stampede at the temple.
The entire incident went uneventful and without causing any danger to the devotees or the cobra.
