Picking up from where it left last time when it was in power, the Aam Aadmi Party Government on Tuesday met Comptroller and Auditor General Shashi Kant Sharma to discuss the status of scrutiny of finances of private power distribution companies in the Capital. The AAP Government during its first stint that lasted for 49 days in 2014 had ordered a CAG audit of the finances of discoms.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was accompanied by Delhi Power Minister Satyendra Jain, is understood to have conveyed to Mr. Sharma his government’s view on the CAG audit and the government’s plans to review the electricity tariff after the audit.
The AAP Government in January last year had ordered CAG audit of the finances of BSES Yamuna Power Ltd, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd. and had even warned the discoms that their licenses may be cancelled if they do not cooperate with the audit.
The Comptroller and Auditor General audit of the discoms was ordered since 2002 after power distribution was privatised.
Delhi discoms are a 51:49 per cent joint venture between the private companies and the Delhi Government.
