To manage the shortage of space to set up transformers in Delhi, especially in unauthorised neighbourhoods, the BSES on Thursday unveiled the first of its kind 2 MVA (megavolt ampere) distribution transformer.

Dedicated to residents

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the transformer in Joga Bai Extension near Jamia Nagar on Thursday, dedicating it to the residents. Others present on the occasion were Power Minister Satyendar Jain and MLA of the area Amanatullah Khan and BRPL CEO Amal Sinha.

“There are many areas in Delhi where discoms face challenges in network augmentation, primarily on account of non availability of sufficient space for installing and laying new power infrastructure. This at times, affects discoms’ ability to meet the increasing power demand. BSES is regularly exploring all possibilities to find cost-effective and workable solutions for addressing this constraint,” the discom said in a statement.

Before this the BSES had also unveiled double-decker sub-station to save space.

Officials said that the present load of the area is around 3.8 MVA and the existing distribution transformer in the area is heavily overloaded, for want of space for augmenting the network.
