A 31-year-old Civil Services aspirant allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan at his rented flat in south Delhi’s Ber Sarai on Monday night. A suicide note was recovered in which the man stated that no one should be blamed for his death, said the police.
The incident came to light on Tuesday when the police received a call from the man’s friend, who had gone to visit him at his flat but found it was bolted from inside. After getting no response, the friend called up the police.
“Samrat Chauhan used to talk to his family members daily, but on Monday he neither called his parents nor received their calls since morning. Worried, the parent asked one of his friends to check on him. The friend reached the flat and informed the police when Samrat didn’t responded to his calls,” said a police officer.
The police broke open the door and found Samrat hanging from a ceiling fan. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. His body was handed over to his family on Tuesday after the autopsy.
The police said Samrat had allegedly failed to qualify the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil services preliminary examination in his third back-to-back attempt. He had left behind a one-page suicide note on his study table, said the police
“I am taking this step at my own will as I am unhappy with my life. I have not been able to achieve anything in life and no one should be held responsible for my death. I apologise to my parents for not being able to make anything out of my life,” he stated in his suicide note.
He ended the note by requesting his brother to take care of his parents.
Samrat’s family told the police that he had completed his bachelor of medical sciences but wanted to become an IAS officer.
