Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday praised the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and the Public Works Department (PWD) for their efforts in revamping the Rock Garden Park in Munirka and the space under the Andrews Ganj flyover.

On a visit to the park accompanied by the SDMC Commissioner, Secretary (PWD) and other senior officials, Mr. Baijal said it took the civic agencies only 8 days to transform the space under the flyover.

Encroachments removed

“The area under the flyover was full of encroachments and garbage. It has now been transformed into a well-lit space with sculptures that showcase various yoga positions,” a statement released by Raj Niwas read.

The inspiration for the “Yoga Mudra Sthal”, as the Corporation has decided to name it, came from a park below a flyover in Mumbai.

“The flyover has also been painted with anti-carbonation paint to protect the reinforced concrete surface and to enhance its life and aesthetic view,” the statement added.

Walkway developed

Meanwhile, a 450-m walkway has been developed in the park. The rest of the area has been landscaped with different types of plants. The restoration exercise took two-and-a-half months. Mr. Baijal said beautification of parks would provide recreational and health opportunities to people.

The SDMC Commissioner informed Mr. Baijal that after the Jamun Wala Park in Malviya Nagar, the Rock Garden was the second park to be restored. He added that the civic body was planning to develop 100 more parks in south Delhi within a year.
