A seven-month-old male child was allegedly kidnapped from the Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital in West Delhi on Wednesday.
According to hospital sources, the mother, 22-year-old Parul of Naraina, had come with her child Naksh and brother-in-law for a check-up at the hospital’s out patient department where she allegedly met the ‘kidnapper’ who was dressed in a violet kurta and a black salwar along with a black and red dupatta.
The two struck up a conversation and later Parul handed over the child to the woman when she went to get some medicines from the hospital store. When Parul returned she could not find the woman. A CCTV at the hospital recorded the woman, with her face half-covered with the dupatta, walking away with the child.
Speaking about the incident, DDU Medical Superintendent Dr. Savita Babbar said: “We have given all the information available with us to the police. However, we cannot be responsible for the safety and care of individual patients round-the-clock. We are offering all possible help to the family. The security at the hospital has also been put on alert. The hospital has been working with the security personnel and warning patients to guard against befriending and trusting strangers at the hospital.”
Meanwhile, based on the complaint of the mother, the police have registered a case of kidnapping under Section 363 of the Indian Penal Code and launched investigations. The accused had not been identified till Thursday evening.
“We are analysing the footage and trying to identify the accused woman who is around 25 years of age. Since the face was covered in the footage we have received, we have spoken to several people in and around the hospital and are also checking if other footages are also available,” said a senior police officer.
According to the police, the woman’s height is around 5’1’’ and she had black hair and fair complexion.
The baby has a mole mark on the thumb of his left hand.
