Child dies in freak mishap at school; parents hold protest

Angry protests were witnessed on Wednesday at an MCD school in the Badli area on the outskirts of the Capital after an eight-year-old student was killed in a freak accident there, the police said.

In the incident which took place on Monday afternoon, Rohit, a student of Class III, lost his balance and fell after slipping off the handrail of the staircase at the school. The child sustained serious head injuries in the accident, the police said.

Teachers at the school had rushed him to a private hospital from where he was shifted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The child succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night at the hospital, the police added.

On Wednesday morning, the deceased’s parents, accompanied by several locals, staged a protest outside the school and accused the teachers of negligence.

School authorities had to make a PCR call after which police rushed to the spot to pacify the protesters.
