The Census operation and preparation of the first-ever National Population Register in the Capital began on Saturday with enumeration of Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi Tejendra Khanna and his wife Uma Khanna by officials of the Directorate of Census Operations of Delhi and the Registrar-General and Census Commissioner of India at Raj Niwas here.
The L-G requested the residents of Delhi to take part in the Census operation and make the exercise a success.
The L-G said every individual would stand to benefit by taking part in this mammoth effort.
The Census figures will provide a comprehensive identity data base that would help in better targeting the benefits and services under the government schemes and programmes. The exercise, he said, would lead to improved planning and help strengthen security.
