Nearly 200 black-and-white and colour pictures captured by citizens of 11 countries who are pursuing photography as a hobby are on display at a week-long exhibition at India Habitat Centre in New Delhi these days.
Titled “Nicefoto”, the exhibition organised by the Delhi Photography Club, a non-profit initiative, celebrates life in its various manifestations.
Complete freedom
Photography enthusiasts from China, Romania, the Netherlands, Iran, England, Germany, France and the host country have captured medieval monuments, wildlife and abstract images. They were given complete freedom to capture a wide variety of pictures.
Interestingly, the amateur photographers are from different professions. They include doctors, diplomats, lawyers, homemakers, students and children who have been pursuing their passion for photography but not opting for it as a career.
Inaugurating the exhibition over the weekend, professional photographer Nitin Rai said: “Seen through the eyes of these artists, the world appears a purer place filled with the innocent love for all creations of the world. The exhibition seeks to promote an understanding of photography and promote social connection among amateur photographers.”
High point
According to Delhi Photography Club founder member Anil Kumar, the second edition of the exhibition seeks to give amateur photographers an opportunity to creatively express themselves.
“For amateur photographers participating in this exhibition is a high point since they cannot organise a solo exhibition for themselves for various reasons. We received 3,000 pictures but selected only 194 colour and black-and-white ones. Only those pictures in which amateur photographers have made an effort are on display.”
The exhibition is on view till July 6.
