CBI starts probe into alleged toll plaza fraud

December 25, 2014 08:07 pm | Updated 08:09 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has instituted a preliminary inquiry into alleged embezzlement of funds by a private company by manipulating computer records on collections made at toll plazas on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, causing loss to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

“The inquiry has been initiated against Pink City Expressway Private Limited, which was awarded contract by the NHAI to collect toll tax on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. It is alleged that at three toll plazas in Shahjahanpur on the highway, computer records were tampered with to show less collections,” said a CBI official, adding that as per agreement with the NHAI, the company was required to keep record of the collections that run into crores of rupees.

Accordingly, the agency plans to summon the officials concerned with the private company seeking explanation on the allegations.
