A Special Court for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) cases on Friday gave more time to the agency to get prosecution sanction for two public servants in a corruption case in which former Delhi Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar is also an accused.
Conspiracy
Special Judge Arvind Kumar asked the investigating agency to obtain the sanction within a fortnight and fixed November 25 as the date for further proceedings when counsel for the prosecution submitted that it needed more time.
The CBI, in its charge sheet, has alleged that Mr. Kumar promoted private company ESPL and helped it get tenders worth ₹9.5 crore through public sector firm Intelligent Communication Systems India Limited (ICSIL) by misusing his official position. The accused persons allegedly entered into a conspiracy to award works to ESPL by designing pre-qualification criteria or without calling for tenders, the CBI alleged. Prosecution sanction are awaited for R. S. Kaushik and G. K. Nanda, current and former managing directors for ICSIL respectively.
The CBI had chargesheeted the accused last year for criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery under the Indian Penal Code and under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Besides Mr. Kumar, Mr. Kaushik and Mr. Nanda, other chargesheeted are Tarun Sharma, the former Deputy Secretary in the office of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal; Dinesh Kumar Gupta and Sandeep Kumar, directors on the board of ESPL; and Ashok Kumar, a private person.
