The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a data entry operator posted at the Civil Lines Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a builder in exchange for not taking action against him.

Rafi Ur Rehman and his accomplice were arrested while allegedly accepting ₹40,000 from the builder on Wednesday. The builder is constructing apartments in Delhi’s Sangam Vihar.

In his complaint to the CBI, the victim alleged that Rehman introduced himself as an official with the SDM office at Tis Hazari courts and threatened to initiate action against him for violation of pollution norms.

The accused also took some photographs of the under-construction flats and asked the builder to meet him in his office. He demanded ₹1 lakh for not imposing a fine on the builder, according to the CBI.

The amount was later scaled down to ₹40,000.
