The CBI on Friday arrested Intelligence Bureau (IB) official Kameshwar and Delhi Police inspector Banay Singh Meena for their alleged role in accepting money on the pretext of ensuring favourable postings in the Delhi Police.
The agency had earlier arrested two middlemen in the same case.
Posting of choice
Mr. Meena, who is currently with the security wing, had allegedly paid ₹10 lakh to Mr. Kameshwar through Arun Tiwari and Rajan Kumar for a posting of his choice. Mr. Tiwari and Mr. Kumar were arrested and the bribe amount purportedly recovered from them on Thursday. The agency also seized ₹1.60 crore in cash.
According to the CBI, Mr. Kameshwar and his accomplices claimed to have links with senior functionaries in various departments through whom they could get transfers and postings done. Mr. Kumar lived in the government accommodation allotted in Mr. Kameshwar’s name.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police sought strict action. “All transfers in the Delhi Police are made through a standardised procedure. We are for strong legal action against anyone who indulges in or facilitates criminal acts,” Delhi Police Special Commissioner Dependra Pathak had said.
