Cash-strapped NDMC turns to L-G for help

May 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Sanitation services in North Delhi may collapse if the Delhi government doesn’t help out the cash-strapped North Delhi Municipal Corporation, Mayor Ravinder Gupta said on Thursday.

“If the Aam Aadmi Party government doesn’t change its attitude, sanitation and other services may collapse and the citizens of Delhi will be the ones to suffer,” said Mr. Gupta.

The Mayor gave the warning after leaders of the BJP-led civic body met Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Thursday to ask for financial aid from the government. The Mayor had met Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal last week.

The Mayor, Deputy Mayor Neelam Goel and Standing Committee chairperson Mohan Bhardwaj informed Mr. Jung of the financial crunch in the Corporation and requested him to intervene.
