To enable People Living with HIV (PLHIV) to have a constructive dialogue with the Members of Parliament and other key collaborators, an event ‘Positive Power! All-India Leadership Summit’ was organised on the eve of World AIDS Day here.
Over 200 people living with HIV participated in the conference and shared their experiences with policy makers, bureaucrats, officials from the United Nations, donors, and members of civil society. HIV activist and president of the National Coalition of People Living with HIV in India (NCPI+), Daxa Patel, said it was the right of every person living with HIV to avail the best treatment,. India has had free anti-retroviral treatment since 2004, but there is a need for the government to recommit as the country faces challenges such as drugs going out of stock. Organised by the NCPI+ in partnership with India HIV/AIDS Alliance and End AIDS India, the PLHIV leaders identified opportunities to ensure access to treatment and enable the continuance of the HIV programme. Leaders like Priya Dutt, Oscar Fernandes and Supriya Sule affirmed their commitment towards strengthening India’s HIV response.
