A young man belonging to a well-off family and his minor accomplice have been arrested in connection with a car-jacking case at Fathepur Beri here after a high-speed chase.

Laxmi Narayan (45), a cab driver, lodged a complaint with the police in the early hours of Saturday saying that two young men beat him up and drove away in his vehicle. The complainant told the police that he was waiting for a passenger near Bristol Hotel in neighbouring Gurgaon when a young man came to him and hired his cab for a hotel in Delhi. Laxmi dropped the man at the hotel. But the man returned after 30 minutes and asked the driver to take him to Block “F” in Sainik Farms. On reaching the Sainik Farms, a minor also joined the young man in the car and the duo directed the driver to go towards Gurgaon. After travelling some distance, the two allegedly overpowered the driver at a lonely stretch and threw him out of the cab. The two then drove away in the vehicle.

Taking up investigation, the police located the vehicle with the help of Global Positioning Response System (GPRS) and chased it. The police team spotted the vehicle on the opposite carriageway a couple of times during the chase, but the accused managed to escape due to heavy traffic. The accused then broke the GPRS instrument and threw it near DLF Phase-I in Gurgaon. They later abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot.

One of the accused, Aditya Varan Kumar, a resident of DLF Phase-I was later arrested and the mobile phone of the driver was recovered. His minor accomplice was apprehended at the Sainik Farms and the ignition key of the cab was seized.

Both the accused are drug-addicts.
