Despite protests by the Jats being called off, the police on Sunday said the massive security arrangements will stay put till further orders and the deployed personnel will keep an eye around the border areas.

“The protest, planned by the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangarsh Samiti, in the Capital has been postponed. However, security arrangements at the borders and New Delhi area will stay put there further orders. They will be lifted only after monitoring the situation,” said Delhi Police chief spokesperson Dependra Pathak.

The police had earlier set-up a three-tier security arrangement from the borders to the New Delhi area, and that metro services would remain suspended ahead of Monday’s protests. The border areas remained jammed late on Sunday night.

The Delhi Metro on Sunday announced that services on all routes will run as per schedule on Monday across the National Capital Region. In a statement issue late at night, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said that restrictions on exit will continue at four stations on the Yellow Line — Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Udyog Bhavan and Lok Kalyan Marg.

New Delhi area on alert

The DMRC had on Saturday announced that trains will not travel beyond the city’s borders from 11.30 p.m. on Sunday and 12 stations in central Delhi will remain shut from 8 p.m. in view of security arrangements.

Traffic Police also pulled back restrictions which were placed around central and south Delhi. However, security checks will remain in the New Delhi area, police said.

“Traffic restrictions have been removed except security pickets in the New Delhi area. This might cause delays, so people are advised to take alternative routes. All public transport modes will operate as usual,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Garima Bhatnagar.
