Calling DU V-C autocratic, officiating principal resigns

April 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Calling Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh’s way of functioning as “autocratic”, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences principal Manoj Khanna has resigned from his position.

Dr. Khanna, who was an Assistant Professor and the Vice-Principal at the college before he was appointed officiating principal in 2013, said he was not comfortable with the V-C’s way of functioning. Dr. Khanna was granted a six-month extension in March, but chose to resign.

In his resignation, he said: I sincerely express my thanks to you and the University of Delhi for reposing faith in me and extending my tenure as officiating principal of the college further for a period of six months. However, I would like to inform you that in the present circumstances, I am not interested in continuing as officiating principal.”

Dr. Khanna said he was disappointed with the administration’s attitude towards faculty appointments. “I had sent a vacancy advertisement on March 19 to the office concerned for publication, but DU has not taken a call on it even after a month.”

He also alleged that colleges have been forced to submit false affidavits to All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for getting approval to run BTech courses, which are part of the erstwhile FYUP.

The varsity authorities, however, denied the allegations. Spokesperson Malay Neerav said: “The allegations made about the AICTE are absolutely baseless. The University has never asked colleges to submit false affidavits. Further, about the appointments, I would like to clarify that there was no delay on the varsity’s end in connection with the advertisements. The said advertisement was received on March 19. By that time appointment process in other colleges was already completed or in the process of getting completed. So, the delay was fr0m the college’s end and not the University’s,” he said.
