Tougher laws to protect journalists, swift investigation of cases of violence against them and speedy relief to those affected were among the demands raised by several Press bodies that gathered at the Press Club of India here in the Capital on Thursday.

Quick response team

As per a statement, the Federation of Press Clubs of India decided at its second meeting to set up committees for monitoring violence against journalists and progress of investigations, preparing a draft resolution for a national law for the protection of journalists and forming a quick response team that would investigate cases of violence against journalists.

Whistle-blowers’ law

The statement, which was issued on behalf of the PCI, Editors Guild, Indian Women’s Press Corp, Federation of Press Clubs of India, Press Association, Kerala Union of Working Journalists and North East Media Forum, added that the participants also wanted the whistle-blowers’ law to be applied to journalists.
