Cabinet makes loss of greenery dearer

Making trees dearer, the Delhi Cabinet on Friday approved re-fixation of the security amount and fixation of the compensation cost for loss of greenery.

The existing rate for each tree removed has been increased in case of both individuals as well as developmental and commercial projects.

According to a release issued by the Delhi government, “The raise in security amount includes a hike from the existing rate of Rs.28,000 to Rs.34,500 in case of individual for each tree to be removed under the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994.’’

This has a refundable component of Rs.15,000 for ensuring compensatory plantation in case of individual applicant for personal use.

In case of the developmental and commercial projects, the fee has been raised from the existing rate of Rs.28,000 to Rs.57,000 for each tree, with a refundable component of Rs.25,000.
