Cabinet decision makes marriage registration simpler

The Delhi Cabinet has decided to issue a notification to amend the Hindu Marriage Registration Rules, 1956.

To register a marriage in Delhi earlier, it was necessary for the parents of at least one of the parties to be residing in Delhi and in an area within the jurisdiction of the Registrar for more than 30 days. The Cabinet has now decided to amend this clause.

In another decision, the Delhi Cabinet has enhanced the cash assistance and relief granted to Kashmiri migrant families from Rs.1,000 per month per person to Rs.1,250.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who chaired the meeting, said at present 3,624 Kashmiri migrant families are availing of cash assistance through the nine revenue districts of Delhi.

The financial assistance for such families was started in April 1990 when it was Rs.125 per month per person, subject to a ceiling of Rs.500 per family of four or more. The assistance was last revised on July 1, 2006, when it was increased to Rs.1,000 per head per month subject to a ceiling of Rs.4,000 per month per family.

Now, the assistance has been increased by 25 per cent.
