The Delhi Cabinet on Thursday approved a proposal for a third-party audit of eight government-funded hospitals and medical institutes, which the High Court had ordered.
The Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, cleared the proposal for engaging the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) to carry out the audit of Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital, Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital, Delhi State Cancer Institute, Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya, Chaudhary Brahm Prakash Ayurved Charak Sansthan, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences and Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences.
In a statement, the Aam Aadmi Party government said the aim of the audit was to find the deficiencies in the functioning of these facilities, as well as suggest measures to improve the services. The statement added that the approval of Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal would be sought.
Apart from the audit, the Cabinet also approved a proposal to set up a plant for the treatment of hazardous waste on a 14 acre site in Bawana.
The facility, to be developed on a public-private partnership model, would treat and store hazardous waste.
