The by-polls for two wards -- Nangloi East and Yamuna Vihar -- of the Delhi Municipal Corporation are scheduled to be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 5 and notification for the same would be issued by the State Election Commission on Wednesday. The statutory notification will be issued on April 8 when filing of nominations will commence.

The reservation status of both these wards is “female general”. They fell vacant following the death of the incumbent councillors.

The model code of conduct will come into force from Wednesday in both the wards. “As a result, the Government, including the local bodies, shall not announce any financial grant in any form or promises thereof nor foundation stone of any project or schemes of any kind shall be laid in these wards. However, the scheme/project of the Government already in progress shall continue,” said an order issued by the SEC.

Further, there shall be ban on transfer of officials of the Delhi Administration, local bodies and Delhi Police as they are deployed on election duty till completion of the by-elections.

While the last date for filing of nominations is April 15, scrutiny of nominations will take place on April 17 and April 20 will be the last date for withdrawal of candidature.

The Nangloi East seat under the North Delhi Municipal Corporation had fallen vacant after the death of Congress councillor Satyam Yadav, who died on November 8 last year.

The election to the other constituency, Yamuna Vihar under the East Delhi Municipal Corporation, was necessitated by the death of Councillor Vijay Bahal. She died on February 14 this year.
