A businessman was robbed of Rs.25 lakh at gunpoint allegedly by three persons outside his shop in South Extension Part-II on Friday night.
Kamal Chandra Deka was also injured in the incident as one of the attackers hit him with the butt of the firearm before decamping with the loot.
Mr. Deka, who deals in foreign exchange and has a shop in E block of South Extension Part-II, was leaving for home after closing the shop when the robbers struck.
“My assistant kept the briefcase filled with cash inside my car just as I was getting ready to leave. When I reached the vehicle, two men accosted me. One of them pointed a gun to my head and asked me to open the car door,” Mr. Deka alleged.
Hit on the head
As the victim tried to escape, the second accused also took out his gun. Yet another person standing behind him was also carrying a firearm.
“One of them hit me on the head with the butt of the firearm, causing blood to started oozing out. They also fired in the air. I ran away and took refuge in a nearby shop as I was scared and they took away the briefcase from my car,” Mr. Deka said.
His assistant, who tried to offer some resistance by hitting one of the attackers with a tiffin box, was scared away as the attackers fired a few more rounds in the air, Mr. Deka said.
The men drove away on a motorcycle, which was parked at some distance from Mr. Deka’s shop.
Warning shots fired
Several passersby who tried to chase the robbers were also scared away by gunshots, according to him.
A case has been registered and investigations are on. The police have questioned several persons and are trying to identify the attackers.
