A young businessman who was kidnapped a couple of days ago from Farsh Bazar in East Delhi has been rescued in Krishna Nagar. A client of the victim has been arrested for alleged involvement.
The police this past Friday received information that 21-year-old Alok Jain had been kidnapped. The kidnappers had made extortion calls to the family demanding Rs.1 crore in ransom. While efforts were under way to track down the victim, the police were tipped-off that the victim had been kept at a house in Krishna Nagar.
In coordination with the local police, the probe team raided the second-floor flat of a building and rescued Alok. In his statement, the victim disclosed that he is in the business of supplying plastic pallets to factories. He had recently supplied raw material worth Rs.20 lakh to Dinesh (42), who runs a factory in Friends Colony for plastic coating on wires factory. Owing to huge losses, Dinesh was unable to make the payment.
On repeated insistence, Dinesh finally sold off the machines and paid Rs.12.5 lakh to Alok. Since the other lenders were also pestering him for repayment, he allegedly planned to kidnap Alok for ransom.
In the morning of September 13, he asked the businessman to collect Rs.3 lakh from him in Krishna Nagar. The two went to the second-floor flat where Dinesh overpowered Alok at knifepoint, tied him up with a chair and stuffed a piece of cloth in his mouth.
The accused then locked the flat from outside and made ransom calls to his relatives.
“The amount was scaled down to Rs.50 lakh. While the negotiations were on, Alok managed to attract the attention of a neighbour by repeatedly tapping on the floor. The neighbour alerted us, following which the victim was rescued. We have also arrested the accused,” said a police officer.
