The eight-page crispier edition of the business daily will provide analysis of the world of economy and politics, updates on hiring trends, experts’ column on grooming and a lot more

The Hindu Business Line has launched Business Line on Campus, a special campus edition that will focus as much on major developments in the world of economy and business as on the information needs of students pursuing higher education.

Releasing the first edition of BL on Campus at the Indian Social Institute here, Union Minister for Corporate Affairs Sachin Pilot congratulated The Hindu group for its new initiative to engage younger readers.

The eight-page crispier edition of the business daily will provide analysis of the world of economy and politics, updates on hiring trends, experts’ column on grooming, appearing for interviews, handling group discussion for placements, hot tips and market intelligence for aspiring buffets, stories and interviews of successful young entrepreneurs. It will also offer updates on the latest gadgets, games and apps among others.

Priced at Re.1, the BL on Campus, a livelier and more informative version of The Hindu Business Line, will be available for management, law, finance, accountancy and college students every Monday to Friday.

Mr. Pilot said the young are very creative today, but just conventional education is not sufficient to tap creativity. All they need is the set of skills which will prepare them for the market, he added. “I hope BL’s campus edition can play this role of providing them the additional set of skills which will help them reach out to the professional world.”

Referring to a recent study that said only 17 per cent out of half a million engineering graduates were employable, Mr. Pilot said aspirations and industry expectations need to be supplemented by information about sense of enterprise, market, development and economy.

Talking about the purpose of BL on Campus, The Hindu Business Line Delhi Bureau Chief R. Srinivasan said the idea was to provide the students information, analysis and insight of market and economy along with career advice which will help them face interviews and enter the market.

Addressing the gathering, Cairn India CEO P. Elango appreciated the Hindu Group for treating the reader as a customer. “It has an appeal not only for students, but parents, too,” he said.

He cited the success of the “BL Club” initiative for students in Chennai and said his company was planning to replicate it in Rajasthan, which is Cairn’s area of business focus. “This will help students in Rajasthan to listen and learn through interaction.”

Among those who attended the launch function of BL on Campus, organised by The Hindu group and sponsored by private oil major Cairn India, were Kasturi & Sons Director K. Venugopal, Senior Associate Editor Mukund Padmanabhan and senior editorial and administrative officials of the group.
