Days after Lucknow’s iconic Tunday Kababi eatery saw a slump in business following the Uttar Pradesh government’s recent ban on illegal slaughterhouses, its franchises in Delhi-NCR however told a different story. For all the five franchises, it was business as usual.

Sachin Shukla, the owner of the five franchises, told The Hindu that his outlets has been serving only chicken and mutton kebabs from the beginning.

“I have two shops in Gurugram, two in Delhi and one in Ghaziabad. There are many franchises by others in Uttar Pradesh and Jammu as well. It’s only at a couple of outlets in Lucknow that kebabs made from buffalo meat are served”, he said.

Talking about the possible impact on his business in the line of its parent outlet in Lucknow, Mr. Shukla added, “There’s no question of any downward turn in our sales because our menu has remained the same. Since we’ve have never offered kebabs made from buffalo meat, nobody comes here looking for them.”

Low demand

On the reason behind his decision not to keep the trademark item from the Lucknow eatery, Mr. Shukla said, “The main reason is low demand. Compared to chicken or mutton, kebabs made from buffalo meat have fewer takers in and around Delhi.”
