A suspected burglar was injured during cross firing between him, his associate, and the police during the early hours on Wednesday in Rohini’s Prashant Vihar. While the injured is undergoing treatment, his associate is yet to be arrested, the police said.

The incident happened when Nitin, alias Sonu, and Salman were trying to scale the boundary wall of Ahinsa Vihar Apartments in Rohini’s Sector 9. Some students who were preparing for entrance exams saw the duo and informed their parents, said DCP (Rohini) Rishi Pal.

The police reached the spot within minutes. The duo, who were armed with country-made pistols, fired at the police, said Mr. Pal, which led the police to retaliate. “Nitin suffered six bullet injuries while Salman escaped,” he added.

The injured was taken to Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital. “The accused is not in a position to be interrogated, which is why we couldn’t get details about Salman,” he said.

Cops donate blood

The police recovered a country-made pistol and instruments used by the duo to break into houses. Mr. Pal also said that four policemen had donated blood for Nitin. “Among these policemen was one who was injured during the cross-fire. He said it was his professional duty to retaliate, but his moral duty to donate blood,” he added. A case has been registered.
