Power distribution companies BRPL and BYPL have re-launched their ‘safety first’ drive wherein training will be provided to the neighbourhood electricians. The company started this initiative a few years ago to educate consumers on safe use of electricity when it trained over 500 neighbourhood electricians.

This time the training will be organised during the first fortnight of September and targets 500 more neighbourhood electricians.

According to BRPL Chief Executive Officer Gopal Saxena, the scheme is being re-launched following requests from residents’ welfare associations. BSES has asked the RWA’s to nominate their colony electricians for these training camps.

The training will aim at enhancing both skills and knowledge of electricians for the safety of all electrical goods and the consumers’ safety as well. It will cover various issues related to internal house wiring, prevention of short circuits and electrical fires, importance of installing earth leakage circuit breakers and its various functions. In addition, the training session will also serve as a refresher course for those trained earlier and share their field-level real-life experiences with those attending the programme for the first time.

“This time round the electricians training will also include energy accounting modules and they will also be advised on how to determine how much energy appliances are consuming so that customers can also become more aware of their energy guzzling equipments - microwaves, air-conditioners, geysers and heaters,” said a spokesperson.
