Days after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal warned of cancelling licences of the private power distribution companies, BSES has now submitted a report to the government on the steps taken by them.

The two BSES discoms have informed the government that it spent about Rs. 550 crore for augmenting infrastructure, besides increasing its call centre head by about 50 per cent.

Better equipped

“Three, 50 MVA EHV Grids were commissioned in Central Delhi, Najafgarh and Mundka to take care of the growing power demand. These new grids have helped meet the additional power demand. In the past one year, BSES Rajdhani (BRPL) invested a capex of Rs. 355 crore, while BSES Yamuna (BYPL) spent Rs. 200 crore to strengthen the infrastructure. Transformation capacity of over 450 MVA was also installed,” a BSES spokesperson said.

The two discoms have also launched additional numbers (BRPL: 33517100, BYPL: 30079300) for registering ‘no supply’ complaints, apart from undertaking several additional measures to help consumers. “We have augmented call centre head up by around 50 per cent, have made operational additional number (with additional lines) for registering ‘no supply’ complaints. Additional 200 people have been deployed to monitor faults and restore power supply,” he added.

The discoms have also deployed QRTs (quick response teams) for faster resolution of complaints and are using hot spot scanning to detect faults in the equipment at the grid level.

Expect power outages

in North Delhi

Residents of North Delhi are likely to face power cuts over the weekend, as the Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) will shift its Bawana-Shalimar Bagh 220 KV line from its existing bays to new bays from May 28 to 31.

“Alternative arrangements have been made to back feed the areas. However, in case of any exigency power supply may be affected rotationally for short duration in Shalimar Bagh, Rani Bagh, Part of Wazirpur and Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar,” a DTL official said.

Even though the overall power situation was good on Friday with the demand touching 5,500 MW, outages were reported from some areas. In East Delhi, power cuts were reported from Yamuna Vihar Extension and Gandhi Nagar while in South Delhi, residents in Govindpuri, Kalkaji and Lajpat Nagar faced outages. Last Friday, the Capital clocked peak power demand, clocked 6,188 MW, highest ever record in Delhi.

The discoms have also launched additional helplines to register ‘no supply’ complaints
