: Ahead of the monsoon, the Capital’s power distribution utility BSES on Friday issued an advisory to the public. It has advised customers on simple precautions to reduce chances of electricity-related mishaps that usually go up during the season.
“We request people to stay away from an electric pole or an electric installation, if it is surrounded by water,” said a BSES official. It is also undertaking works to minimise the accumulation of moisture in grids and panels. These include raising the foundation height of transformers in low-lying areas to safe levels, cleaning rooftops and trenches to avoid waterlogging, and pruning of trees, wherever feasible, to prevent entangling with overhead BSES cables.
“We also urge everyone to alert BSES in case somebody comes across fallen trees on electricity wires due to rain or strong winds,” the official added. Explaining that power theft by hooking into an electricity system poses a serious safety hazard, the discom urged citizens to avoid doing the same. Apart from the 24x7 call centre, consumers can reach BSES through its emergency numbers at 1800-10-39707 for BRPL and at 41999808 for BYPL.
