Taking cognisance of complaints from consumers about the ambiguity on bill settlement for the months of June to August, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has written to the discom BSES to credit any extra amount paid by consumers in their next billing cycle.
The discom has also been informed that the earlier order of the Commission about the settlement of inflated bills does not prescribe any deadline for filing of complaints. This means, the company will have to admit complaints from consumers about inflated bills, even from those who had not filed complaints at any forum.
The Commission has also made it clear that its order, asking the discoms to charge consumers no more than 30 per cent extra than what they were charged for the corresponding period in 2008, also takes into its ambit consumers who have paid the disputed bill amount as well as those who have not paid it.
“In respect of those consumers who have paid the bill, you are directed to refund the amount over and above the limit of 30 per cent prescribed by the Commission in cases of consumers who now dispute the bills and are agreeable to the installation of check meter as per the Commission’s order,” the letter states.
Thousands of consumers had filed complaints with various power forums against inflated bills that were generated between June and August 2009.
