Bringing Dara Shikoh to life

March 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:54 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The life and times of 17{+t}{+h}Century Mughal prince Dara Shikoh have been brought to life at an ongoing festival of theatre and music in the Capital.

The Dar-e-Shikoh festival, which started on March 27 and ends on April 6, has opened the doors of the Dara Shikoh Library on Ambedkar University’s Kashmere Gate campus to visitors.

The festival features Dastangoi performances that tell the story of Shah Jahan’s eldest son. Apart from that, storytelling organisation Darwesh will present a heritage theatre act on the Mughal prince’s life.

There will be discussions and sessions on different musical practices and traditions in the 17{+t}{+h}and 18{+t}{+h}Centuries. These will be conducted by Irfan Zuberi, the project manager of National Cultural Audiovisual Archives at the Indira Gandhi Centre for the Arts.

Throughout the festival, a sound and light show will project various vignettes of history witnessed by the building on the facade of the Dara Shikoh Library.

Monday and Tuesday will see performances by Darwesh. Sunday and April 6 will see a Dastangoi storytelling.
