A four-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped by his mother’s acquaintance from Madhu Vihar on the occasion of Id on June 16 was rescued within six hours of the incident, the police said on Sunday.

They said accused Shiv Kumar kidnapped the child as the mother had turned down his marriage proposal.

“The accused went to the woman’s house on the pretext of wishing her on Id. As soon as she stepped out of the room, he snatched the boy and fled. He went to the New Delhi railway station to take a train to Kolkata. However, the next available train to Kolkata was scheduled to leave on Sunday morning. Shiv then took the boy and went to Connaught Place,” said DCP (East) Pankaj Singh.

A PCR call was received regarding the kidnapping. The mother told the police that Shiv had kidnapped her son. A team was formed under the supervision of Madhu Vihar ACP Vijay Singh. “The accused was detained and the child was recovered within six hours of the abduction,” said Mr. Singh.

Shiv, a resident of Bihar’s Siwan district was nabbed from Connaught Place following a tip-off.

“He told us that he wanted to marry the boy’s mother but she had rejected his proposal. He decided to kidnap the child to force her to marry him,” said Mr. Singh. A FIR under IPC Section 363 (kidnapping) has been filed.
