The Mughal City of Old Delhi — a book by Swapna Liddle, covering the trajectory of Delhi as a city since its establishment as the Mughal capital till India’s independence — was launched on Thursday evening at the Annexe Court of the India International Centre.
“Starting from the mid 16th century and extending to the mid 20th century, I have tried to put 300 years of Delhi’s history in this book. The book tells the story of how the city came to be established under Shahjahan and describes its grandeur as the Capital of an empire at its peak. It also focuses on the important role the city has played in shaping the language and culture of north India,” Ms. Liddle said. The book launch was followed by a conversation between Swapna Liddle, William Dalrymple and Gurcharan Das.
