Police yet to receive post-mortem report

The body of 45-year-old Sushmita Chakravorty, the wife of a technician with the Kingfisher Airlines who allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her Manglapuri residence here on Thursday, was handed over to her family after post-mortem on Friday.

The police are yet to receive the post-mortem report which would confirm the exact cause of Sushmita’s death. She was found allegedly hanging from the ceiling by her husband Manas Chakravorty in their first floor DDA flat in Pocket 13 of Manglapuri on Thursday afternoon.

In a suicide note written in Bengali, she purportedly talked about the financial crisis the family was undergoing and that she was afraid that her husband might even lose his job.

Sushmita also purportedly said her husband had not been getting his full salary for the past few months.

“We have seized the note for further investigations. Inquest proceedings are being carried out to ascertain under what circumstances she allegedly took the extreme step,” said a police officer.

It is learnt that Sushmita’s son, who has been pursuing engineering at Silchar in Assam, arrived in the Capital on Friday, after which the body was taken for cremation.

A neighbour said Sushmita was also concerned about her son’s well-being after he shifted to Silchar earlier this year.On Friday evening, the airline employees took out a silent candle march at Jantar Mantar in support of their demands and also to express solidarity with Mr. Chakravorty.
