The body of a 20-year-old man was found in a park in north-east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri on Tuesday morning, the police said, adding that the face had been smashed beyond recognition.

Stating that the victim’s mobile phone and wallet were on his person, the police have ruled out robbery and are looking at personal enmity as the motive instead. The victim was identified as Ranjit Kumar with the help of his mobile phone.

According to the police, some passersby spotted the body in the park and called the police control room. Prima facie it appears that he was killed on Monday night and his face was disfigured using a stone in an effort to conceal his identity.

Addicted to drugs

Deputy Commissioner of Police Omveer Singh said the victim was employed but consumed drugs.

Mr. Singh added that he had an argument with his parents over his alleged drug use.

“His family and friends called him several times but their calls went unanswered,” said Mr. Sing, adding that his body has been sent to hospital for post-mortem.
