The bodies of four Chandigarh-based traders, who were missing since January 14, have been recovered from the Sirhind Canal near Doraha, about 25 km from here, the police said on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Pawan Sharma (50), his nephew Jayant (24), Prabhajot Singh Nagra (24) and Ram Chaudhry, SSP Khanna police district, Satinder Singh, said.

The bodies were recovered from the car they were travelling in. On their way to Chandigarh on the night of January 14, it appears that the car fell into the canal and the victims drowned near a bridge which was under construction, he said.

The car was located by a crane operator working on the site of a new bridge being constructed on the canal, the police said. -- PTI
