BJP warns of huge protest if power tariff goes up

April 29, 2013 11:50 am | Updated June 13, 2016 02:02 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Bharatiya Janata Party plans to have a massive protest rally at the Ramlila Maidan if the Government makes any further increase in power tariffs in the Capital, said Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel on Sunday. He said he would not stop agitating until the Government is uprooted if the people of Delhi are burdened by any further hike in power tariff.

Mr. Goel was speaking at the ‘Akrosh Rally’ in North Delhi organised jointly by the BJP and various residents’ welfare associations. He said he had planned for at least a 30 per cent reduction in power tariff by bringing in electricity connection portability where the consumers will have the option to choose from several vendors competing against each other.

He promised to come out with a detailed plan to reduce and manage the power tariff.

The Delhi BJP chief also said that the water crisis in Delhi was created by the utter mismanagement of the Congress Government and that his party would bring running water to every household in the Capital by streamlining the distribution system.
