A day after Aam Aadmi Party volunteers demonstrated outside the BJP headquarters here, a party delegation on Thursday approached the Election Commission demanding that the rookie party be derecognised.
A delegation of BJP leaders, including party vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Delhi unit chief Harsh Vardhan, met Chief Election Commissioner V. S. Sampath and handed over a memorandum against the AAP ‘for spreading anarchy and vitiating the atmosphere ahead of the polls’.
The delegation also handed over a CD of Wednesday’s incident and demanded action against those working at the behest of “some foreign forces” that threaten the democratic system in the country.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Vardhan said it was a “pre-planned attack” and that SMSes were sent to AAP workers to assemble at the BJP office. “The way the attack was planned also shows the failure of the police,” he said, alleging the incident revealed a nexus between the Congress and the AAP.
Earlier, Mr. Naqvi said: “The AAP indulged in violence and anarchy on the first day the model code of conduct came into force. It has tried to spread anarchy and instability through violence and wants to further vitiate the peaceful atmosphere ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.”
Dr. Vardhan said senior leaders had passed a “censure motion” against violence by the AAP. He urged the President and the Union Home Minister to take serious note of Wednesday’s incidents and take stern steps, including derecognition of the AAP.
